In 1984 Southland Data Processing began business as a modest offshoot of another business venture. The growth was slow, deliberate and planned. The original intent of the company was to serve as an adjunct of another enterprise. It soon became clear that was not a realistic goal and that fact combined with the desire of the then ownership to divest itself of its interest in the company and leave the area led to a sale to the present ownership in 1986. The original intent of the current owners was to create a small self sustaining payroll and tax processing service bureau that would be located in the Inland Empire and primarily serve local clients. It quickly became apparent that our focus was too small and our goals too light. We adjusted. Boy, did we adjust! Fast forwarding to the present we now have two flagship payroll systems---one DOS based and one Windows based. Both are nationally known products with the ability to import or export files almost at will, with the ability to remotely access both systems and both systems handle all fifty states taxes and have elegant general ledger interfaces, expansive accrual reporting systems and report writers that will simply amaze. Our support is exceptional and we pledge to not use voice mail ever ever ever in the support department. We have purchased parts of two other service bureaus over the years and now have a full fledged accounting system offering, we do a whole slew of work in the balance forward billing area and have the ability to move money in and around the federal reserve system. In short, we have everything we need to compete with the “big guys” with none of the disadvantages. The payroll systems are elegant. No other word fits. The future of our whole industry lies on the Internet. That is simply not open to debate. We are heading in that direction faster than any marketing plan we have ever put together. It is our goal to allow a client to input from anywhere in the world (FREE) and to have the data sent back to them anywhere in the world (FREE). The Internet not only allows for that but we will accomplish that goal and we will do so this year.We referred to marketing above. It is important to know that we do not consider ourselves a marketing company. In contra-distinction to the competition it is more important to us to keep an existing client than to acquire a new one. Don’t get us wrong, we want and need new business. But given the choice between servicing an existing client and acquiring a new client, well, the old guy wins. Please call us.
